It’s not every year you reach half a century and I keep being asked by close friends and clients what have I learnt? So not getting too deep but just taking a warm tea and a moment of pause I invite my fingers to freely type ….
What wisdoms would I offer her?
1) Chase no one:
I don’t mean don’t put the effort in, but if you don’t feel it back then just let them be. This life is all about RECIPORCITY and you must know and trust it is there in those that are meant for you.
2) Energy is tangible and it doesn’t lie:
Notice yourself in another’s presence – Who are you? How to do you speak? Feel? Behave? Is this energy you are surrounded by supporting or depleting you? Practice getting to recognise those sensations as they will sure as hell support you long term in making grounded decisions.
3) Courage with kindness:
You are allowed your opinion; it might not sit well with others. You might take a different route to the majority and that’s okay. Speak and act with intention and with courage, own your integrity and when facing opposition dial up the kindness – it works!
4) Don’t judge your joy:
Gosh! This took years…remember most of us end up on the conveyor belt of life, striving, pushing for success in our career, home, family, and that’s okay… but often true success and ultimately happiness lies in places you least expect. Remember to notice when and where you smile the most and put your energy and focus there more often, it will not disappoint.
5) Assumptions are harmful, deal in facts only:
We create them in our heads, and we assume them by others. It’s tricky to avoid this pattern. By becoming self-aware you can practice checking in and only work within the boundaries of facts. This is key for authentic communication, it’s okay to double-check, to reflect what you’ve heard, to clarify understanding. The language we use is paramount and you would do well to ensure you are fully understood even in the simplest of things as it will save you so much energy.
Most of all you need the outside… don’t wait … get out there and be in the environment your body loves most and the rest will naturally follow.
I’m sure there are more but my tea is getting cold!
Regardless of where you are in life – with just five minutes’ pause – what wisdoms would you offer your younger self?
